Video: Medical Device Manufacturers Scramble as Industry Resilience Is Threatened
The Secretary-General of the Indonesian Medical Device Manufacturers Association (ASPAKI), Erwin Hermanto, has highlighted the impact of global turmoil on the national healthcare industry. The sector is currently grappling with rising import prices for raw materials, which still rely heavily on foreign supply, amid the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate and supply chain disruptions. On the other hand, weakening purchasing power and spending on medical devices are also depressing the selling prices of medical devices in the domestic market. Facing these conditions, efficiency has become the main priority to maintain business continuity. Meanwhile, improving product quality and expanding medical device products into foreign markets are steps the healthcare industry can pursue. Business players also hope for government support in absorbing domestically produced medical devices to meet the country’s healthcare needs.
