Jakarta — CNBC Indonesia hosted the Insurance Forum under the theme “Optimalisasi Proteksi Asuransi & Arah Baru Pengembangan Unit Link di Indonesia” as a forum for regulators, associations and insurance professionals to seek solutions to drive growth and accelerate the transformation of the national insurance business.

Strengthening governance, risk management and enhanced consumer protection were cited by Albertus Wiroyo, Chair of the Board of the Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI), as one of the focus areas for improvements in the insurance industry during 2025.

These improvement efforts have reportedly increased customer confidence, reflected by a 13% rise in the number of policyholders to 150 million. However, this figure includes only 20 million individual policyholders, meaning further growth is needed.

Additionally, AAJI notes a steady rise in premiums, indicating that retail customers require life insurance protection. Going forward, life insurance will continue to promote literacy and inclusion to improve protection services even as public trust in claims remains a PR challenge given perceptions of “insurance is quick to collect premiums but difficult to pay claims”.

To address these challenges, AAJI is pushing for improvements through increased transparency in sales, enhanced competency of sales personnel and product innovations that are simpler and aligned with customer needs.

In 2026, AAJI is pushing for the industry to adapt to three new regulations related to POJK 35/2025 on risk-based supervision, POJK 36/2025 on strengthening the health insurance ecosystem, and the implementation of rules on capital minimum and spin-off of Sharia insurance unit business.

What measures are being taken to drive life insurance performance? Watch the dialogue between Andi Shalini and AAJI Chairman Albertus Wiroyo at Insurance Forum 2026, CNBC Indonesia (Thursday, 26 February 2026)
