Video: Local Industry Prepares Expansion to Counter Onslaught of Chinese Ceramic Imports
Gas supply disruptions from PGN at the beginning of 2026 are said by Edy Suyanto, Chairman of the Indonesian Diverse Ceramics Industry Association (Asaki), to have disrupted the performance and competitiveness of the national ceramics industry. Edy mentioned that since August 2025, gas supply has frequently been hampered, resulting in production utilisation reaching only 70% of the 80% target. Additionally, the gas price of USD 6 MMBTU in 2020 has risen to USD 6.5 MMBTU in 2024 and USD 7 MMBTU in 2025. On the other hand, gas supply disruptions have also forced entrepreneurs to obtain gas from other sources at high prices of USD 10 - USD 10.5 MMBTU. Meanwhile, Asaki continues to receive government support regarding domestic market guarantees through the implementation of SNI and anti-dumping regulations on ceramic imports from China and others, so hopes for expansion persist.
