Video: Jakarta Bank Chief Says RI Economy Grows Positively, Regional Banks Follow Suit
CNBC Indonesia held the Regional Bank Summit 2026 with the theme “Strategic Transformation of Regional Development Banks in Driving National Development” as a strategic discussion forum bringing together regulators, regional development bank (BPD) leaders, and stakeholders to discuss institutional transformation of BPDs to support national development and the economy.
Bank Jakarta CEO and ASBANDA Chairman Agus Haryoto Widodo is optimistic about Indonesia’s economic growth, which reached 5.29% in Q2 2026, also reflected in the positive performance of the banking sector in maintaining growth in assets, credit, and profitability.
Indonesia’s economic growth is supported by public consumption and government stimulus, in line with banking performance that managed to maintain credit growth rising to 12.67% as of June 2026, primarily driven by investment credit and working capital credit, followed by consumer credit, although on the other hand, BPDs are observing caution among business actors in expanding.
In line with Bank Jakarta, Bank Jatim CEO Winardi Legowo assessed that Indonesia’s economic growth performance in the first half of 2026 reflects that economic fundamentals remain strong and capable of supporting the banking industry amid considerable global uncertainty.
Throughout the first half of 2026, Bank Jatim managed to maintain asset and profit growth despite third-party funds posing a challenge. On the other hand, Bank Jatim was able to optimise BPD synergy through the Bank Jatim Business Group (KUB), consisting of Bank NTB Syariah, Bank NTT, Bank Banten, Bank Sultra, and Bank Lampung, to strengthen the foundation of the banking structure in enhancing BPD competitiveness.
