Video: Indonesia's Renewable Energy Development Still Slow, Investor Reveals Challenges
Indonesia’s energy transition programme, which aims to increase the renewable energy mix to reduce decarbonisation and dependence on fossil fuels, has become a magnet for hydrogen industry development. HDF Energy, a French hydrogen company, is taking a role in promoting hydrogen infrastructure and fuel cell technology in Indonesia. Mathieu Geze, Executive Director Asia Pacific at HDF Energy, views the development of renewable energy in Indonesia as still very slow, despite ambitious targets amidst efforts to reduce reliance on cheaper fossil fuels. He also noted that Indonesia’s competitiveness is not yet attractive enough, given the slow progress of renewable energy development. Therefore, strengthening Indonesia’s capacity to absorb renewable energy investment is needed to boost investor confidence in the country.
