Video: Indonesian Fish and Shrimp Compete in Export Markets, KKP Guarantees Quality and Standards

Indonesia’s fisheries export value was recorded at more than USD 6 billion throughout 2025, derived from capture fisheries, aquaculture, and seaweed. Amidst global turmoil in 2026, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, is optimistic about maintaining Indonesia’s fisheries exports, which have recorded a consistent growth trend over the past five years. Currently, capture fisheries exports are primarily destined for the United States and China. In an effort to expand exports, new fisheries production centres are being built, such as the Integrated Shrimp Ponds National Strategic Project (ISF Waingapu), which is set to become the largest modern shrimp farming centre in Indonesia. To meet export standards for fishery products, the Ministry is continuously strengthening integrated supervision within the fisheries supply chain from upstream to downstream, including through certification and compliance with quality and health standards. In addition to fish, the Ministry is also encouraging an increase in national salt production through extensification and intensification strategies to meet demand for both consumption and industrial salt. A 200-hectare National Salt Industry Centre has been built on Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara, which features seawater quality equivalent to that of Australia.
