Video: Indonesia Aims to Become the Tuna Export Leader, Certification Remains a Challenge

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia is one of the world’s largest tuna producers, with production reaching 1.1 million tonnes per year from around 5.2 million tonnes of global catch.

Although the country is the largest tuna producer, Indonesia is said to be in fifth place in the world tuna market because of weak downstream integration and the processing industry, which the market demands.

AP2HI is pushing for improvements to the system, quality enhancement and sustainable production of Indonesian tuna so that fishermen’s products can meet the criteria and certifications required to break into global tuna export markets.

AP2HI also continues to strive to improve fishermen’s welfare to increase the appeal of tuna fishing while safeguarding the sustainability of Indonesia’s tuna production.
