Video: Hospital and Insurance Collaboration to Tackle Surge in Medical Inflation

The Health Insurance Ecosystem Forum 2026, themed ‘Reorganising the Health Insurance Ecosystem: New Regulations, Cost Control, and Service Model Transformation’, was held by CNBC Indonesia as a discussion platform for regulators, associations, and insurance professionals to find solutions for driving growth and accelerating the transformation of the health insurance industry in Indonesia.

The General Chair of the Indonesian Private Hospital Association (ARSSI), Iing Ichsan Hanapend, revealed during the forum that rising healthcare costs and medical inflation are impacting 3,200 hospitals. The increase in the cost of raw materials for medicines and imported medical equipment is affecting hospital services, particularly as service costs under the BPJS Kesehatan partnership have risen over the last four years, increasing the overall healthcare burden.

To address this, ARSSI is collaborating with regulators such as the OJK (Financial Services Authority), BPJS Kesehatan, the Ministry of Health, and private insurers or Supplementary Health Insurance (AKT) to strengthen the healthcare ecosystem, making it more efficient while ensuring the quality of healthcare services is maintained.

From the insurance perspective, the General Chair of the Indonesian Insurance Council (DAI), Yulius Bhayangkara, stated that rising medical inflation, which has led to a surge in insurance claims, remains a significant challenge for the industry. Consequently, insurers are preparing products that benefit the insurance industry, hospitals, the pharmaceutical sector, and BPJS Kesehatan through the strengthening of the healthcare ecosystem.
