Video Goes Viral of Car Driving Against Traffic and Colliding with Several Vehicles in Jakarta

A minibus drove against the flow of traffic and collided with several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2). The minibus was damaged by an angry mob.

The incident began when a black car with license plate D-1640-AHB, driven by Hafiz Mahendra, was travelling from north to south on Jalan Gunung Sahari.

“Upon arriving near the Lapangan Banteng bus stop, the vehicle continued to move south on Jalan Gunung Sahari, even though officers were trying to stop it,” said Central Jakarta Police Chief, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, in a statement.

Upon arriving in front of Jalan Gunung Sahari IV, the car turned left onto Jalan Gunung Sahari IV and continued to Jalan Bungur Besar Raya. After that, the car turned left on Jalan Bungur Besar Raya, heading north.

“And upon arriving at Jalan Gunung Sahari V, the vehicle turned left, driving against the flow of traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari V, heading east towards the four-way intersection of TL MBAL, and continued on Jalan DR Sutomo, heading east,” Reynold said.

Upon arriving near the Bintang Baru Hotel, the vehicle turned around, heading west, and returned to the TL MBAL intersection. Then, the vehicle turned left onto Jalan Gunung Sahari, heading north, until it reached the four-way intersection of TL Pintu Besi.”(Then) the vehicle turned around, driving against the flow of traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari, heading south, until it stopped near the Golden Truly bus stop, where it was attacked by an angry mob of road users,” Reynold said.

After being stopped, the driver and the vehicle were immediately taken to the Central Jakarta Police for further investigation.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” said Reynold.

The incident was recorded in a video and went viral on social media. One of them was uploaded to the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini.

In the uploaded video, the car can be seen driving against the flow of traffic in the middle of a fairly heavy traffic flow. A police officer can also be seen trying to stop the vehicle.

In the video, the police officer appears to be firing a pistol into the air as a warning for the car to stop.

However, instead of stopping, the car driver continued to accelerate, hitting several other vehicles, from motorcycles to cars.

The driver’s actions provoked the anger of local residents. Residents can be seen chasing the car while hitting it with helmets.

“A car became the target of an angry mob in the Pasar Baru Timur area, Central Jakarta,” the post read.
