CNBC Indonesia organised the Food Summit 2026 “Indonesia Food Safety Urgency: Towards a New Policy Framework” aimed at promoting shared understanding, strengthening synergies among stakeholders, and formulating strategic recommendations to bolster the national food safety and quality system.

Assistant Deputy for Food Safety, Quality and Nutrition, Coordinating Ministry for Food, Sabbat Christian Jannes, conveyed the government’s commitment to strengthening food safety while streamlining the food safety system in Indonesia through Government Regulation Number 1 of 2026 on regulations, particularly concerning food safety and quality standards.

This PP No. 1/2026 amends PP 86/2019 on food safety, overseen by several technical ministries—for instance, fresh animal-derived food safety falls under the Ministry of Agriculture, fresh plant-derived food under Bapanas, and fresh fish food under the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

Through this new regulation, the previously fragmented food oversight is addressed via Articles 50 and 75 paragraph 6, which mandate the Coordinating Ministry for Food to coordinate national food oversight through the Food Security Task Force, including in MBG cases.

From the business world, policies on food safety indicate that global food and beverage producer PepsiCo, as stated by Director of Public Policy, Government Affairs & Corporate Communications PepsiCo, Gabrielle Angriani John, has ensured that the supply chain and distribution are secure.

PepsiCo also ensures compliance with government-imposed food safety regulations, covering raw materials, production processes, to distribution. Additionally, the company strengthens partnerships with local corn and potato farmers to develop efficient agriculture that yields safe and quality raw materials.

What are the enhancements in food safety oversight by the Coordinating Ministry for Food? And how is it implemented in the industry? For more details, watch the dialogue by Syarifah Rahma with Assistant Deputy for Food Safety, Quality and Nutrition, Coordinating Ministry for Food, Sabbat Christian Jannes, and Director of Public Policy, Government Affairs & Corporate Communications PepsiCo, Gabrielle Angriani John at the Food Summit 2026, CNBC Indonesia (Monday, 20/04/2026).
