Chief Strategy Officer of PT Steel Pipe Industry of Indonesia (ISSP), or Spindo, Johanes Wahyudi Edward, stated that the impact of current Middle East political tensions has not yet been significantly felt by the steel pipe industry, as evidenced by the still stable demand. However, if the escalation widens and lasts longer, the upstream and downstream steel industry sectors will experience supply chain disruptions, considering that raw material prices have already risen by up to 20%. Additionally, the steel pipe industry is still facing several challenges related to consumer purchasing power amid economic pressures and the increase in Solar diesel fuel prices. In an effort to curb surges in electricity costs and promote sustainability through carbon emission reductions, the steel pipe industry is also endeavouring to utilise clean energy from PLTS. This step could reduce PLN electricity costs by 10-15%, although the energy component is not significant in steel pipe production at present.
