Video: Emerging Market Status at Risk as JCI Slumps
Indonesia’s stock market is facing a severe test. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) has slumped to its lowest level in around six years, while recording the worst performance among global stock indices so far this year. Market pressure has intensified after MSCI raised several fundamental concerns about Indonesia’s capital market, including share-ownership transparency and alleged coordinated trading. There is also a risk that Indonesia could be reclassified from an emerging market to a standalone market.
