Video: Economic Census 2026 Begins, This is What BPS and the Government Are Looking For
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is preparing to conduct the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) from 1 May to 31 August 2026 across Indonesia. This census, carried out every 10 years, aims to capture the structure of businesses and economic activities, ranging from micro to digital scales throughout Indonesia.
BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that this decennial economic census aligns with the 1997 Statistics Law, where population censuses occur in years ending with 0, agricultural censuses in years ending with 3, and economic censuses in years ending with 6.
The economic census acts as a ‘general check-up’ on the economy’s condition, used to comprehensively depict the current economic state, from the structure of business actors on small to large scales, to detect what is happening in Indonesia’s economy.
The results can be utilised by the government and business actors to identify opportunities, economic trends, and serve as a basis for future investments. To ensure the success of SE2026, BPS has been conducting outreach and dissemination to business actors, the public, central and regional governments since two years ago.
What are BPS’s steps in ensuring the success of the 2026 Economic Census? For more details, watch the dialogue between Bunga Cinka and the Head of Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, on Nation Hub, CNBC Indonesia (Thursday, 30/04/2026).
