Video: Demand for Chili Peppers Rises During Ramadan, Bapanas Assures Stock Is Safe
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has assured the safety of stock and price stability for staple foods — including rice, consumable sugar, cooking oil, meat, eggs, as well as chili peppers and red onions — through April 2026.
During Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026, food price stability remains fairly steady, although some commodities, such as red bird’s-eye chilli, tend to stay relatively high. This is due to rainy weather disrupting harvests and distribution; it is hoped that the Raya harvest in the second week of Ramadan in the production hubs on Java and outside Java can help stabilise prices.
To safeguard stock and prices, Bapanas is also strengthening the government’s food reserves and regional food reserves, implementing the Gerakan Pangan Murah (Cheap Food Movement) down to district/village levels, and running the Food Distribution Facilitation (FDP) programme to distribute food from surplus to deficit areas.
What is Bapanas’ strategy for maintaining price stability and safe food stocks during Ramadan and Eid? For more, watch the dialogue between Andi Shalini and Bapanas Executive Secretary Sarwo Edhy on Squawk Box, CNBC Indonesia (Wednesday, 4 March 2026).
