Video: Competing with China, Indonesian Light Steel Struggles to Penetrate ASEAN Market

Vice President of Tatalogam Group, Stephanus Koeswandi, fully supports the national steel industry downstreaming programme to increase the competitiveness and added value of local steel products. Stephanus Koeswandi hopes that steel downstreaming is accompanied by consistency and policies to support long-term investment to ensure business sustainability. At Tata Logam, steel downstreaming has already been carried out on sheet steel products by adding zinc aluminium, thus producing higher-value end products. Tatalogam has developed Modular Houses, which are instant permanent dwellings using layered light steel that has advantages from being anti-termite to anti-earthquake and can be used for post-disaster housing revitalisation. In addition, Tata Logam focuses on developing the export market to 25 countries with the main market being the United States, although currently the ASEAN market competition with Chinese products is still being faced.
