Video Circulates of UBK Student Leader Admitting to Receiving Rp 20 Million Before Demonstration

The coordinator of a demonstration by students from Bung Karno University (UBK) near the Horse Statue last week, Muhammad Abdi, has admitted to receiving Rp 20 million. The admission was made when Abdi was asked for clarification by fellow students at UBK on Monday (22/6/2026). In a circulating video, the Chairman of the Student Executive Body (BEM) of UBK’s Faculty of Law revealed that the money was distributed to several individuals. Recipients included Rafli Maulana Akbar (Vice Chairman of BEM FH UBK) who received Rp 2.5 million, Pujiono (Chairman of BEM FE) Rp 2 million, Rafli Bastian (Vice Chairman of BEM FE UBK) Rp 2 million, Mubarak Fosamu (BEM FH Administrator) Rp 2.5 million, and seniors Amiruddin Emon and Syafruddin Eno, who each received Rp 2.5 million. ‘The rest was for consolidation and is on my motorcycle,’ he said in the video circulating on social media, quoted on Tuesday (23/6/2026). He revealed that the money was given by a police officer before the protest took place. The aim was to ensure they did not demonstrate at the Presidential Palace, but rather in front of the Parliament Building. ‘The one who gave it was from the police, Bang Aan. There was also involvement from a senior,’ he said. According to him, the group still went ahead with the protest at the Horse Statue on Monday (15/6/2026). The money was distributed after the protest, on Monday evening. Republika attempted to confirm Abdi’s statement directly via WhatsApp, but he has not yet responded. Republika also visited UBK to seek confirmation, but no one has spoken. Republika also sought confirmation regarding the allegation that the money came from the police from the Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Erlin Sumantri.
