Video: Capital, Technology & Raw Materials Pose Challenges for Bauxite Downstreaming
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Chairman of the Indonesian Bauxite Association (ABI), Ronald Sulistyanto, stated that developing bauxite downstream processing is a relatively expensive investment, requiring up to USD 1.2 billion per bauxite refinery facility.
The development of bauxite refineries still faces several challenges related to technology, substantial capital, and hindered raw material supply due to the location of reserves overlapping with plantations.
The construction of refineries that process bauxite into alumina and aluminium has currently reached only three projects, but their development has not yet been optimal.
