Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – CNBC Indonesia hosted the Health Forum 2026 on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, themed ‘From Cultural Heritage to a Sustainable Jamu Industry’, providing a platform for regulators and industry stakeholders to strengthen the development of jamu as Indonesia’s cultural heritage to become more competitive and relevant in the modern and sustainable healthcare industry. BPOM Chief Taruna Ikrar emphasised at the forum the importance of advancing and strengthening the jamu industry as a modern, innovative, and globally competitive national strategic sector. Jamu is a national identity, a legacy of empirical plant-based medicinal knowledge across generations, and an integral part of Indonesian culture. Recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, jamu must evolve into modern, research-based health products. The global ‘back to nature’ trend has driven worldwide demand for safe, high-quality natural health products with scientific validation. The forum also explored Indonesia’s opportunities to leverage its biodiversity for modern pharmaceutical industries while bolstering national drug self-sufficiency through local raw materials.
