Video: As AI Era Looms, Indonesia's Internet Infrastructure Faces Disparity
The surge in Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption is expected to drive internet traffic to grow fivefold by 2031. In anticipation of this, internet infrastructure is being pushed to increase its speed and capacity so that Indonesia’s internet can move up a class. Amid the development of digital technology adoption in the AI era, Indonesia’s internet infrastructure is heading towards a strengthening phase but is not yet evenly distributed across the country to accommodate the burden of digital transformation, according to Hendry, Chairman of the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) Jakarta. APJII also noted that internet penetration continues to rise and has reached 81.7%, yet a gap in internet connectivity between urban and rural areas persists due to the still high cost of infrastructure in an archipelagic nation like Indonesia.
