Video: Amid Heated Debate on 2026 Coal RKAB Revision, Commission XII Comments
House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission XII Chairman Bambang Patijaya has commented on the rolling blackouts currently occurring in several areas of Java, Bali, and Madura. Bambang stated that rolling blackouts in Java, Madura, and Bali are rare, given that this transmission network is a vital area where energy supply continuity is safeguarded. Based on the DPR RI’s monitoring, two causes have been identified: two power plants are currently undergoing maintenance, and there is a supply issue specifically for mid-calorie coal of 4,200-4,500 kcal/kg, even though the domestic coal supply under the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) is confirmed to be sufficient. To resolve this issue, the supply of mid-calorie coal will be provided by major producers such as PTBA and Adaro, so that PLN’s electricity supply issues will gradually recover. Bambang also reminded business actors to ensure compliance with the coal DMO rules to guarantee the national energy supply. Going forward, the DPR RI is providing room for business actors and PLN to maintain a balance and evaluate the relationship between supply and pricing.
