The Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Bambang Patijaya, addressed the current situation regarding rolling blackouts occurring in several areas across Java, Bali, and Madura.

Bambang stated that rolling blackouts in Java, Madura, and Bali are rare occurrences, given that these transmission networks are vital regions where energy supply continuity is strictly maintained. Based on monitoring by the DPR RI, two causes have been identified: two power plants are currently undergoing maintenance, and there is an issue regarding the supply of medium-calorie coal (4,200-4,500 kcal/kg), even though the domestic coal supply, or Domestic Market Obligation (DMO), is confirmed to be sufficient.

To resolve this issue, the supply of medium-calorie coal will be provided by major producers such as PTBA and Adaro, ensuring that PLN’s electricity supply issues are recovered gradually.

Bambang also reminded business actors to ensure compliance with DMO coal regulations to guarantee the national energy supply. Moving forward, the DPR RI will provide space for both business actors and PLN to maintain a balance and conduct evaluations between supply and pricing.
