Video: Accelerating 2,900 KM Trans-Sumatra Toll Road, HK Ensures Elephant Conservation
PT Hutama Karya (Persero) continues to pursue the acceleration of construction and development of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), which will connect Lampung to Aceh over a distance of more than 2,800 kilometres. Managing Director of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), Koentjoro, stated that Hutama Karya was assigned to build the JTTS in 2014 through Presidential Regulation No. 100/2014. Up to 2024, 110 km has been constructed, successfully connecting several previously disrupted sections of national roads, thereby aiding the distribution of goods and stimulating the regional economy. Koentjoro cited the example of the Bakauheni-Lampung to Palembang toll road section, which has reduced travel time to around 4 hours from the previous 10 hours, while also fostering the development of markets, housing, and schools. Furthermore, the JTTS has absorbed around 3.9 million workers in construction and operations and boosted Sumatra’s GDP by Rp124 trillion. On the other hand, Hutama Karya ensures that JTTS construction incorporates a green construction programme, so that toll road development does not disrupt natural conservation areas. During floods in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, Hutama Karya has also played a role in accelerating road construction and building 640 temporary homes for disaster victims.
