Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Throughout 2025, Indonesia’s insurance industry recorded a total of 168.03 million life insurance policyholders, an 8.6% increase, while claims and benefits paid by life insurance fell 7.8%, and the value of surrender claims (policy redemptions) in life insurance dropped 19% to Rp62.72 trillion.

AAJI Executive Director Emira E. Oepangat stated that the decline in surrender claim values reflects public awareness that life and health insurance serve as long-term protection, which is very encouraging for the industry.

Meanwhile, the ongoing rise in health insurance claim ratios is due to increases in drug prices, medical devices, and enhanced health insurance benefits. To address this situation, efforts can focus on controlling components that can be managed, such as suspected fraud like falsified medical data, unnecessary procedures, or patient substitutions.

What is the review of the performance and strategies to drive the growth of Indonesia’s insurance business? What is also AAJI’s response to the 600 cases of mis-selling in unit-linked insurance? For more details, watch the discussion by Syarifah Rahma with AAJI Executive Director Emira E. Oepangat on Power Lunch, CNBC Indonesia (Friday, 10/04/2026).
