The Sidrap Regency Government is continuing to promote renewable energy development through wind power plants, solar power plants and waste-to-energy facilities.

Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) Regent Syaharuddin Alrif is optimistic about the potential to expand green electricity generation in Sidrap. He sees it as key to turning the regency into a green-energy hub and strengthening its position as one of Indonesia’s rice-producing centres.

Sidrap is also developing its egg-laying and broiler chicken industries to meet demand in eastern Indonesia and supply the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. The sector is also generating downstream products: around 700 tonnes of chicken manure is processed daily for use as plantation fertiliser and for biogas development.

However, efforts by the regency government to attract investment in energy and agriculture still face challenges related to infrastructure availability. What strategies will Sidrap adopt to develop its economic base as both a rice-producing and energy hub?

The discussion between Serliana Salsabila and Syaharuddin Alrif, Regent of Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap), was broadcast on CNBC Indonesia’s Nation Hub on Friday, 16 October 2026.
