Victims Vent Frustration as 16 Suspects in FHUI Lewd Chat Group Are Gathered
The atmosphere at the forum grew rowdy when the 16 suspects in the alleged sexual harassment case within the University of Indonesia Faculty of Law (FHUI) student chat group were brought in directly. The suspects were jeered by the victims.
FHUI BEM Chair Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo stated that the suspects were gathered at a forum held in the DH UI Auditorium last night. He described the scene as filled with jeers, reflecting the victims’ and other students’ disappointment and anxiety over their safe space being violated.
“It was rowdy and full of jeers, which felt like an expression of the victims’ disappointment, even distress, and the concerns of other students whose safe space was taken away by the perpetrators,” Dimas told reporters on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
“The situation was kept under control by the moderator, and there was no physical assault on the suspects,” he added.
Dimas explained that the forum was organised to accommodate victims who wanted to receive direct apologies from the perpetrators. The suspects were displayed in front of the victims.
“Last night, the forum was indeed held in the DH UI Auditorium to accommodate victims who wanted direct apologies from the perpetrators,” said Dimas.
Dimas noted that 16 perpetrators attended last night. He mentioned that the victims were disappointed and angry about the sexual harassment in the group.
“There were sixteen perpetrators present last night. Regarding the victims’ response, I cannot fully represent their feelings, and I respect what they feel, but certainly disappointment and anger encompass those who became victims,” he stated.
Dimas asserted that apologies alone are not enough. He said there needs to be firm sanctions in favour of the victims in this case.
“However, it must be emphasised again that apologies alone will not suffice; there needs to be firm sanctions that side with the victims in this case,” he said.
As is known, the case began with the circulation of screenshots from a chat group containing lewd conversations allegedly involving FHUI students. In the group, they made derogatory remarks about other female students.
From the Instagram account of the Faculty of Law UI (@fakultashukumui), it was stated that the faculty has received reports regarding the chat group. The faculty strongly condemns the actions.
“The Faculty strongly condemns all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity and contradict legal and academic ethical values,” stated the Faculty of Law UI.
UI Rector Speaks Out
UI Rector Heri Hermansyah spoke out regarding the uproar. He assured that he will monitor the handling of the case at the Faculty of Law UI.
“I just heard about it last night, and I’ve asked the dean again for a response. But I’ve also seen responses in various media; the Dean of the Faculty of Law has responded. So, the directorate will monitor how it’s handled at the faculty. Let’s monitor it together; we fight sexual harassment,” said Heri.
FHUI Takes Action
The Faculty of Law UI has received reports of the viral case involving student chat group conversations with sexual harassment tones. FHUI is beginning to investigate the case.
“On 12 April 2026, the Faculty received a report regarding alleged violations of the code of ethics that also potentially contain criminal elements, related to activities of some students. Based on the report, the Faculty learned of the circulation of screenshots of conversations allegedly involving students and containing inappropriate content, including indications of sexual violence,” stated the Faculty of Law UI via its Instagram account, as seen on Monday (13/4).
