Victims of Human Trafficking Seeking LPSK Protection Rise Since 2024, West Java Highest
The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has recorded an increase in the number of applications for protection in cases of the criminal act of human trafficking (TPPO) since 2024. Based on region of origin, the highest number of applicants came from West Java.
“Human trafficking is a phenomenon that has always been a concern for the international community and for us, because the numbers continue to rise. In LPSK records from 2024 to 2026, applications to LPSK have continued to increase,” said LPSK Deputy Chair Antonius PS Wibowo to reporters on Thursday (29/7/2026).
“Regarding applications for protection to LPSK, in 2024 we recorded 576, then in 2025 there were 554, and in 2026 up to May there have been around 132. This data is only up to May 2026,” he added.
Antonius made these remarks during a national discussion commemorating World Anti-Trafficking Day at the LPSK building. He noted that the number of TPPO protection applications to LPSK is fluctuating and is predicted to continue rising.
“The number of TPPO protection applications to LPSK is fluctuating, meaning that currently in 2026 it is still below 150, but it is possible that in August, September, or October it could increase sharply,” he said.
Based on the applicants’ regions of origin, Antonius stated that West Java dominated, followed by East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), East Java, and Central Java.
“We recorded that the highest region of origin is still held by West Java Province. The second is from NTT, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Then the third is East Java and Central Java,” Antonius said.
“Of course, this is data received by LPSK, and this data may differ from data on TPPO victims or protection held by other ministries or agencies,” he added.
Antonius mentioned three LPSK service or protection programmes that consistently dominate the needs of TPPO victims. The first is the need for legal assistance, followed by the need for restitution facilitation.
“The third is the need for recovery, which includes social recovery and also returning to their original environment in a good condition,” he said.
