Victims of Human Trafficking in Libya Guaranteed Safe Return to Families

Indonesian migrant workers who became victims of the crime of human trafficking in Libya are confirmed to be able to return safely. Director of Supervision, Prevention, and Enforcement at the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Brigadier General Guritno Wibowo, guaranteed this. “We provide a guarantee to the migrant workers who are currently on their way or have already arrived in our territory, that they can return to their respective homes safely and be reunited with their families,” Guritno said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday. With the assistance of the Indonesian Embassy, he said, the trafficking victims are now in Indonesia. The ministry is handling the case and providing assistance to the migrant workers who became victims of the crime. “We are providing assistance so that this problem can be resolved properly. The perpetrators of the crime can also be investigated and punished accordingly,” he said. The ministry has cooperated with legal job placement companies that dispatch Indonesian migrant workers abroad. Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Companies must provide skills training, language training, and administrative preparation for prospective migrant workers. “If this is carried out properly and legally, their departure will be procedural. They will be employed according to their employment contracts,” Guritno said. He regretted that some parties seek profit through improper or illegal means. One example is the Indonesian migrant workers who became victims of human trafficking in Libya. “There are still parties who take advantage by committing crimes like the one currently being handled,” he said. The Metro Jaya Regional Police stated that three women who were victims of human trafficking in Libya have been successfully repatriated to Indonesia after cross-country and inter-agency coordination.
