Victim's lawyer speaks out on Red Notice application for Ustadz SAM
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The lawyer for the victims of the alleged sexual harassment by suspect Ustadz Syekh Ahmad Al Misry (SAM), Achmad Cholidin, has spoken out regarding the application for a Red Notice by the Set NCB Interpol Indonesia, Division of International Relations, National Police.
When met at the Bareskrim Polri Building in Jakarta on Monday, Achmad stated that the Red Notice application is part of the efforts to bring Ustadz SAM back, who is currently in Egypt.
“The process related to apprehending a suspect abroad does indeed have procedures. We hope that our colleagues at Police Headquarters will act quickly to carry out those procedures and collaborate with Interpol to issue the Red Notice. Yes, that is a step that must be taken immediately so that he cannot go anywhere else,” he said.
He also revealed that Ustadz SAM is currently being held temporarily by Egyptian authorities. However, he did not disclose the reasons for the detention.
He further hoped for negotiations to repatriate SAM so that the individual can be held accountable in Indonesia.
“Hopefully, Egypt remains open and understands the interests of the Indonesian side, particularly Police Headquarters, to try and legally process Ahmad Misry, who has committed the criminal act of sexual harassment against underage children,” he stated.
“The Red Notice application is currently in process through the Interpol portal,” said the Head of the Transnational and International Crime Section, Set NCB Interpol Indonesia, Division of International Relations, National Police, Commissioner of Police Ricky Purnama.
Ustadz SAM was reported to Bareskrim Polri in November 2025 for the alleged sexual harassment case involving five male students.
The victims’ lawyer, Achmad Cholidin, said that the acts allegedly committed by SAM have caused severe trauma to the victims.
Moreover, there are allegations of intimidation against the victims by SAM or his representatives to withdraw the case from the police, as well as attempts at bribery towards the victims.
“There were threats, even to victims in Egypt not to open this case at all. There were also attempts to provide funds so that this would not continue, either by the suspect or his representatives,” he said.
At that time, the victims, along with student teachers and religious figures, conducted tabayyun, after which SAM issued an apology and promised not to commit further acts of alleged same-sex sexual harassment.
However, instead of repenting, in 2025, the teachers received confessions from their students that SAM had repeated similar acts.
Ultimately, a report was filed with Bareskrim Polri regarding the alleged harassment committed by SAM against the students.
