Victim of Sexual Harassment by Lecturer at Budi Luhur University to Issue Summons to Campus, Demands Perpetrator's Dismissal
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The victim of sexual harassment at Universitas Budi Luhur, identified by the initial A, plans to issue a summons to the university authorities. A has no intention of pursuing legal action by reporting to the police yet. She chooses to await the university’s follow-up after the summons is sent. “I want to summon the perpetrator with a copy to the university through my lawyer first,” A told Kompas.com on Tuesday (7/4/2026). A’s legal counsel, Pahala Manurung, explained that the summons is being pursued because previous persuasive efforts were ignored. In the summons, they will reiterate the incident experienced by A and highlight the rector’s decree that temporarily suspended the perpetrator for six months. They will also demand accountability from the university by urging the dismissal of the perpetrator from his position as a lecturer. According to Pahala, removing the perpetrator from his academic position should be the university’s step to keep the environment free from harassment acts. “He is requested to be dismissed so as not to harm the university’s side,” Pahala said. He also received complaints from other female students through the hotline shared by A on social media. Today, Pahala received one report from A’s junior, initialled L, who claimed to have experienced a similar incident. According to him, the victims often received verbal harassment that demeaned them as women. A also experienced nonverbal harassment. At that time, the perpetrator was only temporarily suspended for six months. However, A claims to still see the perpetrator in the campus environment, making her feel uncomfortable.
