JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The case of alleged sexual harassment at Budi Luhur University in South Jakarta has escalated after the lecturer suspected of being the perpetrator filed a counter-report against the victim.

The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that both parties have submitted reports to the police.

“Well, this has been reported, and the lecturer has also made a counter-report,” Budi said at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Budi emphasised that the police cannot reject public reports as long as they are supported by initial evidence.

“So anyone has the right to file a report with the police, but firmly, professionally, and transparently, the investigators will decide whether the case will proceed to the investigation stage or be stopped at the inquiry stage,” he explained.

The lecturer with initials Y (48) is known to have reported alleged defamation against his former student, A (24).

The report was registered under number LP/B/24/2495/IV/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA dated 10 April 2026.

In that post, A claimed to have experienced sexual harassment by an academic figure at her campus.

Y denied the allegations.

He stated that he never intended to commit sexual harassment, either verbally or non-verbally.

“So if my words at that time, which I didn’t intend, for example, came out and were then considered as harassment, I can’t do anything about it. And I never made any touches or anything like that,” he explained.

On the other hand, A stated that she had reported the alleged harassment to the campus authorities. As a follow-up, Y was temporarily suspended for one semester.
