BEKASI — Tri Wibowo (54), the victim of an acid attack by his neighbour with initials PBU (29), has died after undergoing intensive treatment in hospital.

The victim breathed his last at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital on Sunday (26/4/2026) at around 03.50 WIB.

The victim, who was a member of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI), had previously received treatment for serious burns on several parts of his body after being doused with acid.

“The victim passed away this morning due to bleeding following skin graft surgery,” said KSPI President Andi Gani Nena Wea in an official statement on Sunday.

Gani stated that his side is urging the police to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case, including uncovering the real motive behind the criminal act.

“We ask the police to thoroughly investigate the real motive for the acid attack on the victim,” said Andi Gani.

He also emphasised that they would monitor the legal process until its conclusion and demanded that the perpetrators receive the maximum punishment.

“The perpetrators must receive the heaviest possible punishment because the act resulted in the loss of the victim’s life,” he said.

Previously reported, Tri Wibowo became the victim of the acid attack while on his way to dawn prayers at a musholla about 50 metres from his home.

The incident occurred in Bumi Sani Housing, Setia Mekar Village, Tambun Selatan Subdistrict, Bekasi Regency, on Monday (30/3/2026) at around 04.51 WIB.

In this case, the police have arrested three suspects: PBU (29), MS (28), and SR (24). Based on the investigation results, each suspect had a different role in the act.

The police revealed that the motive for the attack was driven by the main perpetrator PBU’s personal grudge against the victim. The planning of the act was carried out through four meetings from February to March 2026 at a coffee shop and the suspects’ home.

For their actions, the perpetrators are charged with multiple articles related to aggravated assault. They are charged under Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code on planned aggravated assault with a maximum threat of 12 years’ imprisonment.

In addition, the perpetrators are also charged under Article 470 of the Criminal Code for using materials dangerous to the victim’s life or health, which could increase the sentence by one-third.
