Vice-Rectors Forum Regulates AI Usage as a Learning Tool for Students

Makassar (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Forum of Vice-Rectors for Student Affairs views the need for regulations regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool to assist students in the learning process.

Member of the National Vice-Rectors Forum, Prof. Imam Santoso, stated in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday, that AI tools are an unavoidable instrument but must be anticipated to ensure their use aligns with their intended purpose.

“We cannot prevent the use of AI. However, we must regulate it in such a way that these tools only serve as learning aids, and that students utilise them wisely,” said the Vice-Rector of Brawijaya University.

“Through evaluation systems, we ensure that students are undergoing a high-quality learning process,” he continued during the opening of the National Forum of Vice-Rectors for Academic and Student Affairs in Makassar.

Previously, the Rector of Hasanuddin University (Unhas), Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa (JJ), emphasised the importance of the ability to adapt to technological developments, particularly AI, for students and graduates. This is essential to remain competitive in an increasingly demanding job market and to create a real impact on society.

Prof. JJ reminded that technological changes have brought significant disruption to the professional world. Therefore, university graduates cannot rely solely on academic abilities; they must possess sensitivity to contemporary developments and the proficiency to utilise technology to enhance their personal capacity.
