Vice-President Urges Young People to Join Hands to Face Global Crises
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka called on Indonesia’s youth to join hands in facing various global crises while supporting national development. According to a statement from the Vice Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta on Thursday, the Vice President, while opening Tanwir II Muhammadiyah Youth Congress Year 2026 in Badung, Bali today, said the global situation is dynamic and requires intergenerational collaboration.
‘This is a moment full of dynamism; this is a global crisis, an unpredictable geopolitics, trade wars, tariff wars, climate change, technology disruption, this is the time for young people, for youths to unite,’ said Gibran.
The message aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive emphasising youth involvement in strengthening human resources, reducing educational and health disparities, and developing regional potential to meet global challenges and realise an advanced Indonesia.
‘The government cannot do it alone, especially since we will have a demographic dividend, where a large portion of our population is of productive age,’ he explained.
Therefore, he emphasised the importance of optimally leveraging the demographic dividend to increase productivity and the competitiveness of Indonesia’s youth.
‘And this is a very important, very crucial moment, because this moment comes only once and will not recur. Therefore, I reiterate: young people must join hands,’ the Vice President said.
According to him, youth involvement is essential to support educational equity, health, and digital transformation in remote areas.
The Vice President has visited various regions in Papua several times to ensure government programmes reach communities in remote areas.
‘If possible, perhaps on the next visit we can invite Muhammadiyah Youth to Papua so they can see the real conditions and understand the challenges there. Because Muhammadiyah Youth surely focuses on health and education issues,’ the Vice President said.
On that occasion, the Vice President also expressed appreciation to Muhammadiyah Youth for consistently producing outstanding and ethical young cadres who are now contributing in various strategic national sectors.
