Vice President urges Buddhist community to champion peace and strengthen tolerance
Magelang - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has urged the Buddhist community to lead in promoting peace and strengthening tolerance to maintain national unity amid the country’s development challenges.
Speaking at the 2570 BE Vesak Day celebration at Borobudur in Magelang on Sunday, Gibran extended his congratulations to all Indonesian Buddhists.
He called on Buddhists to continue fostering tolerance and interfaith brotherhood, which he described as a crucial foundation for national stability and progress.
Gibran also expressed appreciation for the Buddhist community’s contributions to social harmony and humanitarian activities across various regions.
He noted that Buddhist involvement in education, healthcare, and community empowerment has provided tangible benefits for national development and harmonious social life.
According to Gibran, unity and peace are essential prerequisites for Indonesia to continue its development amidst evolving dynamics and challenges.
Therefore, he encouraged Buddhists to actively maintain inter-religious harmony and strengthen social cohesion within their communities.
He stated that Buddhist values such as compassion, loving-kindness, and wisdom remain relevant in addressing increasingly complex life issues.
Gibran also called on all societal elements to collectively leave a more harmonious, just, prosperous, and dignified Indonesia for future generations.
