Vice President Try Sutrisno Passes Away; Palace Calls on Public to Fly Flags at Half-Mast for Three Days
Jakarta — The Ministry of State Secretariat has called upon citizens throughout the nation to fly the national flag at half-mast for three consecutive days beginning 2 to 4 March 2026 as a mark of respect for the passing of Indonesia’s Sixth Vice President, Try Sutrisno.
In addition to the flag-lowering protocol, the period from 2 to 4 March 2026 has been declared a National Day of Mourning.
The appeal was directed at the public across all regions of Indonesia as a tribute to the services and dedication of the late Vice President to the nation and state.
Try Sutrisno passed away at the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta on Monday morning at approximately 07.00 WIB. News of his death was first announced by his family, followed by the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), and subsequently confirmed by several officials from the State Secretariat and the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres).
Try Sutrisno was laid to rest at the Heroes’ Cemetery (TMP) Kalibata in Jakarta on Monday afternoon. President Prabowo Subianto served as Ceremony Inspector during the military funeral proceedings.
The funeral ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Eleventh Vice President Boediono, and several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet. Also present were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, Commander of the Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, Chief of Staff of the Army General Maruli Simanjuntak, Chief of Staff of the Navy Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Chief of Staff of the Air Force Air Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Minister for Political and Security Co-ordination Djamari Chaniago, all standing near the President’s rostrum.
During the ceremony, President Prabowo recited the state roll call for the late Try Sutrisno: “I, as President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, nation, and Indonesian National Armed Forces, hereby present to the Motherland the soul and services of the deceased. Name: Try Sutrisno; Position: Sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, term 1993-1998, Commander of the Armed Forces, term 1988-1993. Son of the late Subandi, who passed away in service of the nation and state on Monday, 2 March 2026, at 06.58 WIB in Jakarta.”
