Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka saw off President Prabowo Subianto’s departure to Washington D.C., United States, at the Indonesian Air Force Base (Lanud) Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta on Monday.
At the Base Ops of Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma, the Vice President and a number of senior state officials who came to see off the President stood near the aircraft steps.
Before climbing the aircraft steps, President Prabowo shook hands with Vice President Gibran and other state officials, including Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Indonesian Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency M. For his visit to the United States, President Prabowo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
In Washington D.C., President Prabowo is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump Jr. to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United States, including bolstering cooperation in strategic areas.
During the meeting, the two heads of state are also scheduled to sign an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), negotiations for which have been ongoing since 2025.
On the same visit, President Prabowo will also accept President Trump’s invitation to attend the inaugural summit of the Board of Peace (BoP) for Gaza in Washington D.C.
The day before his departure to the US, President Prabowo gathered several of his ministers and held a limited cabinet meeting at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday (15/2).
Several ministers who attended the limited meeting included Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani.
During the meeting, the President discussed Indonesia’s strategic direction ahead of economic negotiations with the United States.
Two key points were emphasised by President Prabowo: firstly, that Indonesia’s position in economic negotiations with any country must deliver the best possible benefits for national interests; and secondly, that economic cooperation forged by Indonesia with partner nations must not be short-term in nature, as such cooperation must be capable of strengthening national industry.
