Vice President pushes for acceleration of Way Bungur Bridge construction in Lampung
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming has confirmed that the government is continuing to accelerate infrastructure development to strengthen connectivity and equitable access, including the Way Bungur Bridge in East Lampung Regency. During an inspection of the bridge construction in Lampung on Wednesday, the Vice President stated that as an implementation of President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita vision, the government is accelerating the development of quality and equitable infrastructure as a foundation for equitable development and strengthening the national economy. “The emergency bridge will be ready in two weeks. The permanent bridge will also be built soon,” said Vice President Gibran. He made the remarks during a field dialogue with Lampung Deputy Governor Jihan Nurlela, East Lampung Regent Ela Siti Nuryamah, and the local community. The Vice President confirmed that the emergency bridge will be completed within two weeks, around the end of July 2026, so that motorcycles and schoolchildren can cross safely. He emphasised that accelerating infrastructure development requires strong synergy between the central and regional governments. According to Gibran, various technical and non-technical obstacles must be resolved through intensive coordination. To this end, the government will apply a priority scale in development and repairs, prioritising roads and bridges that have a direct impact on the community’s economic activities. The construction of the Way Bungur Bridge, also known as the Kali Pasir Bridge, holds strategic value as one of the main links between East Lampung and Central Lampung regencies. Without bridge access, schoolchildren and residents have had to cross the river using simple wooden boats for their daily activities. The limited number of boats has also resulted in suboptimal mobility for the community.
