Vice President Provides Directives for PSEL Development in Palembang, South Sumatra
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the construction of the Waste-to-Energy Plant (PSEL) on Jalan Keramasan, Kertapati District, Palembang, South Sumatra, on Thursday, issuing a number of directives that must be given focused attention during its development.
“Alhamdulillah, today Vice President Gibran inspected the PSEL construction, which will process waste in Palembang City into electrical energy,” said Palembang Mayor Ratu Dewa in Palembang on Thursday.
Ratu Dewa conveyed several key points of instruction given by Vice President Gibran for the plant’s construction.
According to the Vice President’s directives, he said, the current main focus is on the regulatory transition and the project’s socio-economic impact on the local community.
He explained that one important aspect emphasised is the shift of the legal basis from Presidential Regulation Number 35 of 2018 to Presidential Regulation Number 109 of 2025.
The change concerns adjustments in financing, institutional arrangements, and the overall acceleration of physical construction.
“Several things stressed by the Vice President concern, first, everything related to the transition from Perpres 35/2018 to Perpres 109/2025 — whether in terms of financing, institutions, including the acceleration of physical construction,” said Ratu Dewa.
To ensure this transition runs smoothly, the Palembang City Government will continue to maintain sustained, intensive coordination with the relevant ministries, agencies and Danantara.
Beyond regulatory matters, Ratu Dewa added, the Vice President also highlighted the importance of the project’s impact on the welfare of local residents.
The Vice President requested that education, the absorption of local workers, and the empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) be primary considerations in the project’s implementation.
Regarding supporting infrastructure, Ratu Dewa said he had spoken directly with South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru to prioritise improvements to connecting roads.
“As for the connecting roads, I have just spoken with the Governor. This will be a priority for the provincial government to repair the roads leading to the facilities here,” he said.
He added that the physical construction of the PSEL facility has shown positive results, reaching 91 per cent, with a completion target before the end of 2026.
PT Indo Green Power manager Satriawan Ming expressed appreciation for the very solid synergy between the central and regional governments.
His company is committed to accelerating construction of the PSEL facility so that its economic and environmental benefits can soon be felt by the people of Palembang.
“Because this is a pilot project for waste management in Indonesia. The Vice President asked that progress continue to be stepped up and that it have a positive impact on the people of Palembang,” he said.
