Vice President Inspects Bagong Dam Project Undertaken by PTPP
PT PP (Persero) Tbk (PTPP), a national construction and investment company under the oversight of Danantara Indonesia, welcomed a visit from Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to inspect the progress of the Bagong Dam construction in Trenggalek Regency, East Java.
During the visit, Gibran was accompanied by East Java Deputy Governor Emil Dardak, Trenggalek Regent Mochamad Nur Arifin, Trenggalek Deputy Regent Syah Muhammad Natanegara, Head of the Brantas River Basin Organisation Muhammad Noor, Head of the Bagong Dam Development Project Technical Unit Riwin Andono, and PTPP General Manager Apri Setiawan.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating strategic infrastructure development to strengthen water resilience, food security, and flood control in southern East Java.
In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, Gibran emphasised the importance of expediting the project’s completion so that the benefits of the Bagong Dam can soon be felt by the community, particularly farmers and residents of Trenggalek. On this occasion, he also highlighted the importance of synergy between the central government, local government, and all stakeholders to ensure smooth construction.
The Bagong Dam Construction Project Package III, undertaken by PTPP, has a contract value of Rp402.31 billion with a implementation period of 1,473 calendar days, starting from 20 December 2024. As of now, the project progress has reached 59.49%, surpassing the target of 56.56%, reflecting performance that is ahead of schedule.
The Bagong Dam has a storage capacity of 17.4 million cubic metres, projected to supply irrigation water for 977 hectares of agricultural land in the Bagong Irrigation Area. In addition, the dam will provide raw water at 153 litres per second and play a role in flood control in Trenggalek Regency.
PTPP Corporate Secretary Joko Raharjo stated that the positive progress of this project is the result of meticulous planning, continuous innovation, and solid collaboration among all stakeholders.
“PTPP is committed to completing the Bagong Dam project on time while prioritising quality, occupational safety, and sustainability. This project is expected to provide tangible benefits to the community, particularly in supporting water resilience and enhancing agricultural productivity,” he said, quoted on Thursday (30/4/2026).
In its implementation, the Bagong Dam project faces quite complex technical challenges, especially since the dam construction is based on colluvial layers that require special engineering to ensure structural stability and safety. To address these challenges, PTPP has implemented various construction innovations to improve work efficiency and maintain occupational safety standards.
The application of these innovations has contributed to the project’s commendable achievements, including the Indonesia Construction Safety Award 2023 in the Safety Innovation category for State-Owned Enterprise Projects with the paper title “Tunnel Dust Buster Bagong Dam-Infrastructure Division 2”, as well as the Indonesia Construction Award 2024 in the Service Provider category for the Best Implementation of Domestic Product Usage Policy (P3DN) in the Water Resources Sector from the Ministry of Public Works.
For information, Gibran also gave appreciation to the project team and conveyed encouraging messages to all field workers. This support is expected to further motivate the optimal acceleration of project completion.
PTPP is committed to continuing to support sustainable national infrastructure development and providing added value to society and the Indonesian economy.
