Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono stated that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will begin working from IKN in the near future. He conveyed this plan during a meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 30 March 2026.

The former Minister of Public Works and People’s Housing said that Gibran has undertaken several preparations to start working from IKN. He mentioned that around 50 vice presidential staff have been assigned to prepare for Gibran’s relocation there.

“I think yes (working from IKN) because 50 staff have already been assigned there for the preparations,” said Basuki in response to a question from Commission II Chairman Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda regarding the certainty of the relocation plan for the eldest son of former President Joko Widodo.

Basuki has not disclosed the exact schedule for Gibran to start working from IKN. He only assured that it is highly likely Gibran will no longer be working from Jakarta this year. “Insyaallah (this year),” said Basuki.

When met by journalists after the meeting, Basuki reiterated that the agenda for Gibran’s relocation to IKN remains a plan and requires extensive preparations. Additionally, Basuki stated that the Vice President’s Office in IKN is already complete. He hopes Gibran can soon occupy the building.

“My house is now there, so I hope that happens and they truly work from there,” he said.

Previously, during the meeting, Commission II member from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle faction, Deddy Sitorus, urged Gibran and the ministers to start working from IKN. Deddy considered this necessary so that the buildings in IKN can be utilised and not damaged due to prolonged neglect.

He also proposed that several ministries begin placing their officials to work from IKN on a rotational basis. “I’ve been asking for that for a long time. Vice President, Minister of Forestry, Minister of Villages, Minister of Transmigration, go live there. State money is an asset. Don’t get too comfortable in Jakarta,” said Deddy.
