Vice-President Gibran reviews revitalised primary school in Kupang
The visit was part of his official agenda in NTT, where he attended an Easter event in Kupang City earlier that day.
“When I first visited this school last year, I found it operating with soil floors and holed roofing. Today, this school has new, proper buildings. I hope that this renewed environment will make students more diligent and enthusiastic about learning here,” Gibran said.
His first visit to the elementary school took place on May 7, 2025, during which he handed over school supplies to 389 pupils and received a proposal to rehabilitate the educational complex.
This time, NTT Governor Melki Laka Lena accompanied the vice president to the school, where hundreds of students and local residents gathered to welcome them.
Upon arrival, Gibran went straight into a classroom to exchange views with teachers and local government representatives.
The central government allocated more than Rp2 billion (around US$117 thousand) from the 2025 budget to upgrade the school under the Educational Institution Revitalization program. Construction works concluded in October that year.
In detail, the program covered a total of 14 classrooms—three of them newly built—along with one administration room, one dormitory for teachers, and sanitation facilities.
After the classroom discussion, Gibran greeted pupils and handed out school supplies before posing for a group photo in the schoolyard.
Among the students was fifth grader Ervin Natasha Namah, who expressed delight at receiving school supplies and meeting the vice president.
“We are also happy for the new classrooms,” Namah said.
From the school, Gibran continued his agenda with a visit to a tourism village in Central Kupang Subdistrict.
