Bandung City (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Wednesday inspected the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT)-based education at Santo Yusup Junior High School in Bandung. Gibran arrived at Santo Yusup wearing a light-blue shirt and was welcomed by West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan and Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan. At the school, the Vice President also observed first-hand the extracurricular e-sports activities and the IoT product-based learning implemented for students from Year 7 to Year 9. During his visit, Gibran toured several classrooms and spoke with students about the learning process and the development of technology innovations they are undertaking. After around 30 minutes at the site, the Vice President continued his working visit programme to Bandung Regency to inspect schools and pesantren. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that the development of science and technology at the junior high level needs to be encouraged from an early age. Meanwhile, Santo Yusup’s ICT teacher Didit Wahyu Triono explained that IoT education at the school has been in place for two years. He said that Year 7 pupils are introduced to making simple games as the basis for programming logic. In Year 8, the difficulty level is increased with more complex game development. ‘When in Year 9, students are grouped to create innovations needed by everyday society,’ Didit said. Didit added that the products produced are still prototypes as an initial learning stage. It is hoped that the knowledge can be developed further when students continue their studies and delve into the IoT field.
