JAKARTA – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has reminded Indonesians travelling home during the homebound season to exercise caution on the road and maintain their health and safety whilst travelling.

This message was conveyed by Gibran in a video posted on the YouTube channel of the Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (@Setwapres) on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

Gibran noted that Indonesians are currently entering the much-anticipated homebound season, when migrant workers return to their hometowns to reunite with family.

“We are now entering the homebound season, a time eagerly anticipated by migrant workers to return home to their hometowns and gather with their families,” said Gibran.

“For all those of you currently travelling home, please be careful on the road, and continue to look after your health and safety,” he added.

“I hope that the opportunity to gather with family and relatives at home brings warmth and happiness,” Gibran said.

According to the Vice President, this year is particularly special because several religious celebrations are being held in close proximity to one another.

“This year is a very special year for the Indonesian nation because the Chinese New Year celebration is taking place at the same time as the fasting month of Ramadan, and the celebration of Nyepi is being held close to the celebration of Eid al-Fitr,” said Gibran.

He expressed the view that this occasion demonstrates that Indonesia’s diversity is not something that should be contested.

Gibran noted that diversity has been part of Indonesia’s national identity for a long time.

“This is the identity of our nation, which possesses diversity in faith, ethnicity, and tradition, yet remains united in the bonds of strong brotherhood,” he said.

He called upon all members of society to be grateful for and nurture the diversity that Indonesia possesses.
