Vice President Gibran Receives Student Aspirations, Notes Demands in Small Book

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the initiative to receive representatives of students demonstrating in the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta. During the meeting, Gibran welcomed the students’ aspirations. Student Action Coordinator Abdi Maludin stated that the students presented their analysis directly to Vice President Gibran. According to him, Gibran noted all the students’ aspirations in a small book. “The response from the parties, certainly the Vice President, was very good. He will record the results of our demands in his small book, noting the points that the Vice President must address in the future to improve and evaluate all irregularities in the country today,” said Abdi after the meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026). Abdi said the students also conveyed a number of concerns. In addition to national issues, regional issues were also raised by the students. “Our fellow students conveyed their aspirations, both their grievances from the regions and grievances on a national scale, they conveyed them constitutionally directly to the Vice President. That is perhaps the result of the meeting,” he said. Abdi mentioned that the demands related to the fiscal and education cluster, namely requesting a temporary suspension of the MBG programme and an audit of transparency for the deputy of food sovereignty policy in the regions. They also called for the resulting budget efficiencies to be redirected to subsidise higher education operational costs to realise affordable education. “The third point: the legal and civilian supremacy cluster. I will perhaps shorten this because our colleagues are there. Sending an official recommendation on behalf of the regional government to the Indonesian House of Representatives to conduct a legislative review of the Polri Law which was just passed a few weeks ago,” he said. Furthermore, demands regarding the monetary and energy crisis cluster were raised. He urged the central monetary authority to intervene to stabilise the rupiah and cancel the policy of increasing Pertamax fuel prices because it destroys the domestic purchasing power of the people. “If within 5x24 hours, by Friday, 19 July 2024 at the latest, the second party violates, ignores, or fails to show progressive evidence of the realisation of this memorandum, then the first party has the right to declare that the second party has a defect in moral legitimacy and has betrayed our agreement,” he stated.
