Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited the Banyuwangi Main Market in East Java, commending its design and construction concept which incorporates traditional Osing architecture. Accompanied by Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and relevant ministry officials, Gibran toured every corner of the facility.

Gibran noted that the market’s open-space design ensures proper air circulation, preventing the interior from becoming stuffy. “Congratulations, the market is excellent. I hope it becomes even more crowded,” Gibran said. He added that compared to other revitalised markets, the Banyuwangi market stands out as the most impressive.

The market, built by the Ministry of Public Works, features two main buildings on the north and south sides, divided into three zones: a wet market, a dry market, and a culinary area. It houses numerous kiosks and stalls, with prominent ornaments reflecting the symbols of the indigenous Osing tribe.

Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani explained that the market is designed with a “tourist market” concept, where traders will be grouped according to their merchandise to make it easier for visitors to find specific goods. She also expressed hope that the venue would host various events in the future.

I Gusti Agung Aris Wibawa, Head of the East Java Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Task Force, confirmed that construction is 100 percent complete. The project is currently in the maintenance period and awaiting the official handover of assets from the central government to the regional government. Once the handover is finalised, traders will be able to move from their temporary relocation sites into the new building. Gibran also instructed the contractor to tidy up visible loose cables and ensure the floors are thoroughly cleaned before the handover.
