Vice President Gibran Pays Respects to Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu Lying in State at Ministry of Defence
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka paid his final respects to former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, whose body was laid in state at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday, 1 May 2026.
According to Kompas.com observations, Gibran and his entourage arrived at 10:48 WIB in a Maung vehicle.
Gibran and Donny then entered the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall where Ryamizard’s body was laid before burial.
Four minutes later, the Vice President exited the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Hall at 11:02 WIB.
Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Hospital in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at 14:03 WIB.
Born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 12 April 1950, Ryamizard graduated from the Military Academy (Akmil) in 1974 with an infantry background.
Throughout his life, Ryamizard dedicated himself to serving the nation through various strategic assignments within the military and government with unwavering loyalty, dedication, and high spirit of service.
His peak service in the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) was marked by his appointment as Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005.
Under his leadership, the Army strengthened professionalism, discipline, and readiness of units to safeguard Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The four-star retired general then served as Defence Minister during President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) first term from 2014 to 2019.
The Indonesian Army prayed that Ryamizard would rest in peace, be forgiven for all his mistakes, and that his family be granted strength, patience, and acceptance in facing this tragedy.
