Vice President Gibran Highlights the Importance of Green Diplomacy in National Development
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka underlined the importance of strengthening green diplomacy as part of sustainable national development and preparation for Indonesia Emas 2045. He communicated this during a meeting with representatives of the Green Diplomacy Network at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, 20 May.
The discussions addressed the role of the younger generation in supporting the government’s sustainable development agenda, including capacity-building for youths in green diplomacy and global environmental issues.
Executive Director of the GDN, M. Zulhamdi Suhafid, said the organisation is developing a programme to mentor the next generation through education and hands-on green diplomacy to enable them to participate at the international level.
“From Green Diplomacy Network we are opening a programme on how the younger generation can learn about green diplomacy,” Zulhamdi said after the meeting.
According to Zulhamdi, the Vice President supports initiatives by young people that contribute to improving the quality of human resources as the foundation for Indonesia Emas 2045. “He (the Vice President) said he would support young people who wish to demonstrate their abilities so that we can prepare now for Indonesia Emas in 2045,” he added.
Secretary to the GDN Director, Fathur Rahman, added that the Vice President also stressed the importance of youth involvement in supporting the government’s priority agenda, from downstream industrialisation to the development of renewable energy and self-sufficiency in food.
“Sir, the Vice President said that we all, as young people, must also push government programmes, focusing on downstreaming, particularly in food self-sufficiency and renewable energy,” Fathur said.
He hopes that the synergy between GDN and the government can be strengthened through more comprehensive collaboration in developing green diplomacy and empowering the next generation. “We hope to pursue all synergies more comprehensively with the government,” he concluded.
