Vice President Gibran: Educators as Frontline in Shaping High-Quality and Character-Driven Human Resources
Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, stressed that educators are the frontline in shaping high-quality and character-driven human resources. He made the remarks during a meeting with the central leadership of the Indonesian Christian Student Educators Association (PERDISKI) at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 29 May.
During the meeting, Vice President Gibran urged teacher professional organisations to take on a dual role. Besides advocating for teacher welfare, organisations like PERDISKI are expected to actively enhance national education quality through strengthening teacher competencies and robust character education.
The Chairman of PERDISKI’s Second National Consultative Assembly (Munas), Riovold Yulianto, revealed that the Vice President directed PERDISKI to play a strategic role in Indonesia’s education roadmap.
“A specific message was conveyed by the Vice President. We are expected to be at the forefront in advocating not only for welfare but also for teacher protection and improving education quality,” Riovold stated after the meeting.
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of continuous teacher capacity building. According to Riovold, the government is encouraging intensive training and workshops.
“We should frequently organise intensive teacher workshops. The aim is to advance educators’ quality. While welfare is important, quality must be prioritised,” he added.
Meanwhile, PERDISKI’s Chairman, Yusak, expressed appreciation for the Vice President’s focus on the welfare of Christian religious teachers across remote regions of Indonesia.
“He is focused on the welfare of Christian religious teachers nationwide and supports efforts to secure their eligibility. This is part of the government’s programme to advance religious education, particularly Christian education,” Yusak said.
The Vice President supports various youth initiatives contributing to human resource quality improvement as the foundation for Golden Indonesia 2045.
