Vice President Gibran Calls JK His Idol, Mentor, and Role Model

Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka responded to the statement by the 10th and 12th Vice President M Jusuf Kalla (JK), who claimed credit for the victory in the 2014 Presidential Election alongside Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Gibran responded casually, while describing JK as a figure he idolises in the political world.

“Pak JK is my senior. Pak JK is also my mentor,” said Gibran after inspecting the facilities at Sorong Regency General Hospital in Southwest Papua Province on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

According to Gibran, JK is one of the figures rich in contributions and experience for the nation. In particular, he added, regarding the handling of regions that have been affected by conflict.

“He is very experienced. He has made many contributions to this country, especially in conflict areas,” said Gibran.

He also expressed appreciation for the input and evaluation given by JK regarding his father’s achievements as President of the Republic of Indonesia. “So he is a role model for us all and yes, I am very grateful for the inputs and evaluations from Pak JK,” said Gibran.

He also reaffirmed that JK is one of his idols. Therefore, he positively appreciated JK’s journey in politics and government. “Pak JK is my idol. Yes, thank you,” said Gibran in conclusion.
