Vice President Gibran Accompanied by Jan Ethes Performs Eid al-Fitr Prayer at Istiqlal Mosque
Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, performed the Eid al-Fitr prayer for 1447 Hijriah at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on Saturday morning (21/3).
Observations from CNNIndonesia.com indicate that Gibran arrived at the location and entered the mosque area with his entourage. Gibran was seen wearing white Muslim attire. He was also observed to be accompanied by his son, Jan Ethes, during the moment.
In addition to the vice president, a number of high-ranking state officials attended the Eid prayer at Southeast Asia’s largest mosque.
Among them were MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of BPN Nusron Wahid, and Minister of Culture Fadli Zon.
Several other officials were also seen participating in the congregational prayer, such as Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR Marwan Dasopang, DPD Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudi, and Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni.
The Eid prayer at Istiqlal Mosque began around 07:00 WIB. The worship was led by Dr. KH Ahmad Husni Ismail, MA, as the imam, with H Ahmad Rofiuddin Mahfudz, SQ, M.Ag, as the substitute imam.
Meanwhile, the Eid al-Fitr sermon was delivered by Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, MA, M.Phil., Ph.D., with the theme “The Victory of Eid al-Fitr Sowing Goodness, Attaining Blessings”.
The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque Nasaruddin Umar was also scheduled to attend the Eid prayer proceedings.
This year’s Eid prayer at Istiqlal Mosque once again became the centre of public attention, attended by thousands of worshippers from various regions and joined by state officials in a solemn and communal atmosphere.
