Vice President Ensures Accelerated Restoration of Basic Services After Aceh Disaster

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has assured that the government will accelerate the restoration of infrastructure and basic services following the disaster in Aceh and is ready to listen to aspirations to address the community’s needs. “My presence in Aceh today is to see first-hand the conditions on the ground, monitor the progress of the ongoing post-disaster handling, and to directly hear the aspirations, input, and needs of the affected community,” Gibran said in a written statement. He made the remarks while inspecting the post-disaster infrastructure recovery in Bireuen Regency, Aceh, on Thursday. On that occasion, the Vice President confirmed the government continues to work optimally to speed up the recovery of infrastructure and basic services in Aceh. “Nevertheless, I realise there is still work to be done and challenges that need to be continuously addressed. Therefore, I am open to every aspiration, input, and constructive criticism so that every government step truly answers the community’s needs,” he said. Observing the progress so far, Gibran also expressed appreciation to all ranks of the central and regional governments, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police, volunteers, non-governmental organisations, the business sector, and all elements of society who have worked together to assist the recovery process. He noted that the spirit of mutual cooperation displayed in the recovery process is invaluable, although the construction of safe and habitable infrastructure is the state’s responsibility. “The government will continue to oversee its completion so that the community can resume their activities safely and comfortably,” the Vice President said. The inspection itself is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that strategic post-disaster handling projects run optimally so that mobility access can be quickly restored and the community’s economy can improve again.
